Founded in 1896 by goldsmith Ferdinand Menrad in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, Menrad pioneered precision craftsmanship and innovation in eyewear. It was one of the first companies to introduce adjustable temple design—a breakthrough known as the “Hindenburg temple”—demonstrating a commitment to both comfort and technical advancement.

With about 250 employees worldwide, Menrad products are available on all continents and in over 100 countries. The products are supplied through the company’s own subsidiaries in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, England, the Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Turkey, China and the Middle East, as well as through our export department – based in Munich – to all other countries.

Over the decades, Menrad has remained a family-owned business, now led by its fourth generation. With over 125 years of heritage, it has become one of Europe’s foremost eyewear manufacturers, enveloping design, production, and distribution of both prescription and sunglasses with uncompromising quality

In June 2025, Design Eyewear Group acquired Menrad, aiming to strengthen its presence in Germany and foster new growth opportunities for the brand.

Since its beginnings as Altın Optik in 1966 —one of Turkey’s earliest optical stores— CemFa Gözlük, now part of the CemFa Group, has emerged as a leading force in the Turkish optical industry.

Founded in 1987, CemFa Optik initially managed both optical lenses and eyewear. To meet growing demand and better serve its partners, CemFa Gözlük was established in 2013, focusing exclusively on representing top global eyewear brands—including eyeglasses, frames, and sunglasses.

While CemFa Gözlük expands access to premium eyewear, CemFa Optik continues to specialize in the production and distribution of ophthalmic lenses and cutting-edge optical laboratory equipment.

CemFa’s longstanding collaboration with the prestigious German eyewear company Menrad culminated in the founding of Menrad Türkiye, building on a successful partnership that began in 1997.
